Questions we are asked (some good, some not so 😆)
Our most often asked question is.......
- I've got a dress/shirt/trousers that I really love. Can you make me the same garment? I find this question very tricky to explain to customers that don't sew, so I'll give this a try 😉What is required here when a customer wants a custom made garment is a dressmaker (think of those wonderful people that make bespoke wedding gowns). Dressmaking is very different from manufacturing, which is what we do (I've written about our process in this blog post.) What this customer is wanting in this example is all that work that we put into 1 style for their 1 garment. I'm not sure they would be prepared to pay for that! Not only do these type of customers expecting that we patternmake a new pattern for them, but most expect that we are also going to source the fabric for them too!
The question that still makes me shake my head 😵💫 is......
- Where do you buy your fabric from? Now, people who email this question to us and I'm the one answering soon find out that they have asked the wrong person! As I've mentioned previously, I started this business on the cusp of the internet and had to buy (yes, buy!) Yellow Pages for every state to source fabric for our business. I then had to either send typed letters in the mail or ring/fax these suppliers to even get started with buying fabric. Oh, and did I mention that back in those days, fabric suppliers did not sell you small, cut rolls of fabric. You were required to gamble on the fabric and purchase 60m at a time, just to start sampling 😀 In my opinion, there has never been an easier time in the world to start a business than in the last 15 years! The world is literally at our fingertips.
The question/s that I love....
- Any question that is asked over and over that pushes us to design our next style 😊 Questions like "I love this style but does it come in 3/4 sleeves?" or "I've been wearing your fleecy hoodie for years but do you have the matching pants?" or "I love the fit of your yoga pants. Would you make them in a shorts length?" Sometimes, the answer is no (like V-necks and polos 🤨) but it is often yes, when we have a quiet moment 😀
Feel free to send us any questions you may have (except "where do you buy your fabric? 🤣). Sometimes, the answer is a no, sometimes it's a not yet, sometimes it's a hell yes 😆 and other times, it's a thank you for asking, that's a good topic for a blog post 😉
